You’re about to watch an episode of my vlog series called Marie Unplugged. These videos are totally different than my award-winning show MarieTV. If you prefer those, 325 episodes are waiting for you. Vlogs by nature are raw and off the cuff. So wear headphones if kiddos are around because adult language is likely. Enjoy!

One of the questions I’m asked a lot is about my typical workday.

Here’s the truth: when you’re an artist, entrepreneur or any combo thereof, there’s no such thing as a typical workday. Every day is different and I like that. My days depend on two factors:

1. Where I am geographically. Remember, I run a virtual company by design. I like the freedom and flexibility to work from different locations. All I need is a Wifi connection, my cell phone and my computer to get the vast majority of my work done. But days spent in NYC inevitably unfold differently than days in the woods of the Catskill Mountains or days in Venice Beach.

2. What I’m working on. Writing is different from production which is different from shooting which is different from post production which is different from day-to-day leadership which is different from meetings which is different than promotion which is different from hiring and training which is different from learning which is different than speaking, and so on and so forth.

Each day contains a multitude of these tasks (and more) in ever fluctuating proportions.

That said, this episode of Marie Unplugged is a glimpse into one recent summer workday. Not a typical day, just one day.

As Annie Dillard so wisely shared, “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” Every single one of us is different. We have different goals, different ambitions, different strengths, different priorities and different outcomes that we’re after.

One of the keys to happiness and winning at life (however YOU define it) is to get super honest about what your goals and priorities are. Then be ruthless about living it. Resist the urge to compare yourself to others.

While not always successful, I do my best to fill my days with love and laughter and movement. Those are as important to my existence as oxygen.

I’m curious, what’s your oxygen? Are you giving yourself enough of what you most need? If not, what’s one action you can take now to change that?

Leave a comment below and let me know.

Thanks for taking this August Marie Unplugged journey with me. Your words of love and support are appreciated more than you know.

With enormous gratitude,
