What day is it? It's Q&A Tuesday. Cheerleaders!
Today's question comes from Lulu and Lulu writes, “Hi Marie. I'm 24 and I want to get into the fashion industry but I feel so old to do a two-year fashion course. I feel insecure about my age. Any advice?
What? Seriously, Lulu, okay, first of all, I can relate to this question because honestly when I started my dance career at 25 I was considered over the hill in the hip hop dance world. There is one question that I asked myself to get over my age and security fast. What was it? I'm gonna tell you at the end of the video. Cliffhanger!
In the Artist’s Way, which is one of my favorite books by Julia Cameron, she writes, Question, do you know how old I'll be by the time I learn to play the piano? Answer: the same age you will be if you don't.”
Oh, that was some good shit, right? Here's the deal Lulu. I'm too old for that is one of the biggest BS excuses we all tell ourselves to avoid the fear and insecurity that comes from being a beginner. Lulu, you have no idea how young 24 is. Trust me in ten years you're going to want to smack your 24-year-old self or even thinking that that was old and I guarantee you there are tens of thousands of viewers who are wanting to smack you right now for even considering 24 to be old.
People start their careers at every age in fact there are loads of superstars who started w beyond their 20s.For example Grandma Moses. Even if you don't know who she is you've probably heard her name she is a very famous folk painter. So here's the deal on Grandma Moses. She didn't start painting until she was in her 70s. She had her exhibitions. They were so popular that they broke world attendance records which is amazing and then at age 88 Mademoiselle Magazine named her Young Woman of the Year.
How about Julia Child, the famous chef? She didn't even start cooking school until she was 37. Probably my favorite example is Sly Stallone. Did you know that he was in his early 30s working a deli counter and also as a movie usher when he wrote Rocky.
No way. Way.
So, Lulu, and everybody else, you're not too old then, all right?
So let's end the suspense. The question that I asked myself at 25 to get over my agent security was this: In ten years, will I regret not having done this to put it another way will I want to go back in time and smack myself. If the answer is yes, get off your butt and take action immediately.
So Lulu that was my A to your Q. I hope you enjoyed it. Now here's what I wan you and everyone else to do answer these questions in the comments below. Do you know any late bloomers? are you a late bloomer?
