There’s something weird that used to happen to me for years.
Whenever I made a big leap in my life (especially as it related to my career), I’d get super sick. I’m talking head-splitting migraines, debilitating nausea and one of the worst of all — nearly a week of being so weak and sick that I could hardly get out of bed.
While everybody gets a bug now and again, the timing of these illnesses right after something big just happened in my business was just too strange.
Plus, after doctors ran all kinds of tests and repeatedly told me, “Marie, I can’t find anything wrong with you.” I knew I had to look deeper.
That’s when I learned about a concept called “upper limits” and the unfortunate link many of us have between self-sabotage and expanded success.
If you ever find yourself with the urge to run and hide, pick a fight, or somehow stir up trouble when things start to get really good — this episode is a must watch! You’ll learn a simple practice to stop self-sabotage for good.

Over the weekend, I thought a lot about money.
I read a brave and eye-opening article in the NY Times from a self-confessed money addict, and had a few conversations with friends about the movie The Wolf of Wall Street.
I also did a lot of yoga and meditated on the subject — especially because I’ve started working on my next book, in which money (especially the making of it) plays a vital role.
As I’ve shared before on MarieTV, I feel blessed to have developed a healthy and even loving relationship with money. While that relationship is always evolving…
I’ve come to believe a healthy, respectful relationship with money helps us put it in its rightful place: it’s just one of the many resources we have to offer and share in this adventure called life.
I also don’t prescribe to a zero sum world-view based in scarcity.
Meaning, if you get more money (or love, attention, fill in the blank) — that I get less. Both science and spirituality show us that through collaboration, innovation, generosity and partnership — our collective resources can truly be infinite.
Without going too far down a philosophical rabbit hole, I’m so excited to share today’s MarieTV episode with you. So let me ask…

I’m writing you from the clouds. More precisely…
I’m about 10,000 feet up on a Virgin America flight en route to Los Angeles for our company’s annual summer retreat.
Since our business is completely virtual, it’s vital that we all get together in person a few times a year for strategic planning and — big ol’ slumber parties!! (don’t you miss those??)
Back when I first started my business, I dreamed of the day when I’d be lucky enough to work with really talented people like this.
I fantasized about having these kind of work/play “getaways” in gorgeous places with tons of healthy food and ample supplies of markers and flip charts.
But that was a fantasy I didn’t tell many people about for years.

My palms were sweaty and my heart was racing so fast you’d think I just chugged 10 spiced pumpkin lattes.
Then I heard a voice say, “Let’s go Marie – you’re on.”
I took a deep breath and started walking.
During the five seconds it took me to get from backstage onto center stage to deliver my talk at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara last week, my mind generated the same old self-sabotaging thoughts I had when I first began speaking over a decade ago.

Last week was the first time I’ve ever left a yoga workshop, in my life.
Let’s be clear – the teachers were fantastic.
But after my fourth downward dog, I started breaking into a cold sweat, got nauseous and my head felt like it was about to explode.
