Satya Jewelry: How to Run a Profitable Purpose-Driven Business

When Josh and I first got together, he’d often surprise me with jewelry for my birthday and Christmas. Nothing too crazy or extravagant. Just something small and lovely and sweet.

While I was deeply grateful, invariably we’d wind up returning whatever piece he chose so that I could get something that was more, well, me. (I don’t own a lot of stuff, so I gotta loooove it to keep it!)

Josh said, “How about this: why don’t we go shopping together and you can pick out exactly what you want?”

Smart man.

I walked us over to a beautiful little store near our home called Satya Jewelry. It’s the kind of place that you stop at every time you pass by because your eye always catches something heavenly in the window.

Satya means “truth” in Sanskrit. Their mission is to create pieces that are meaningful, inspiring and beautiful. Plus, they believe in giving back so with every purchase, you’re helping to improve the lives of women and children worldwide.

I was captivated. This was the first fashion brand I’d seen that not only had gorgeous product, but that executed a for-profit, for purpose-business model in such a genuine and elegant way.

On one of my many visits to the store, I remember thinking to myself “Wow, I really love this. Wouldn’t it be cool if someday I had my own little Satya line of jewelry?”

A few years later, I was at a friend’s party and bumped into Satya herself. I was totally uncool and fangirled on about how much I loved her work and that it was the one brand of jewelry I keep going back to.

(Being nonchalant is not one of my strong suits.)

After chatting for a bit, one thing became clear. The reason I loved the jewelry so much had everything to do with the authentic soul who created it. Her generous and optimistic spirit spills forth into everything she touches.

Here on MarieTV, one request I often receive is for more stories of everyday people who decide to leave the safe path to follow their crazy, unconventional heart.

Wish granted. In today’s episode you’ll hear about Satya’s adventurous journey from being a disenchanted social worker to launching an enormously successful global jewelry brand from scratch.

I’m also deeply honored to announce our first ever capsule collection with Satya called #BeBlessed. I love having small totems around to ground me in my truth and inspire me towards my dreams, and I hope these lovely pieces can do the same for you.
