Ever have an opportunity to talk about what you do and either say nothing, or fumble it?
(My hand’s raised.)
That’s because most of us aren’t super great at self-promotion. Selling ourselves can feel awkward, braggartly and just plain wrong.
But if you want your career to thrive and you want your work to make a positive impact — you’ve got to learn how to do it.
That’s why I’m excited for you to watch today’s episode of MarieTV. Because who you are matters. You’re on the planet for reason and your work has value.
It’s time for all of us to untangle this feeling of shame and self-consciousness from the act of expressing our gifts, and offering our services to the world.

“Oh boy, do I even have anything worthwhile to say?”
“Nobody’s going to want to read this anyway. What’s the point…”
“I have no official credentials or fancy degrees. Who do I think I am to write any of this?”
If you’re human and want to write, produce, or create anything — chances are you’ve battled these kinds of thoughts, too.
Fear and insecurity seem to go hand in hand with creativity and self-expression.
I’ve been publishing my ideas for well over a decade now and I still hear versions of those thoughts every week when I sit down to write my email to you, or when I work on MarieTV.
If the “Who am I to write this?!?” fear has been stopping you from sharing your ideas, today’s MarieTV is for you.

There’s something weird that used to happen to me for years.
Whenever I made a big leap in my life (especially as it related to my career), I’d get super sick. I’m talking head-splitting migraines, debilitating nausea and one of the worst of all — nearly a week of being so weak and sick that I could hardly get out of bed.
While everybody gets a bug now and again, the timing of these illnesses right after something big just happened in my business was just too strange.
Plus, after doctors ran all kinds of tests and repeatedly told me, “Marie, I can’t find anything wrong with you.” I knew I had to look deeper.
That’s when I learned about a concept called “upper limits” and the unfortunate link many of us have between self-sabotage and expanded success.
If you ever find yourself with the urge to run and hide, pick a fight, or somehow stir up trouble when things start to get really good — this episode is a must watch! You’ll learn a simple practice to stop self-sabotage for good.

What we’re talking about today is often a #sbd dream killer.
(#sbd = silent but deadly. Usually used to describe farts, but equally applicable to habitual mental patterns that limit your experience of success and happiness in life.)
This particular thought pattern often lingers in our minds and gets triggered when we compare ourselves to others. Sadly, it also leads to chronic creative wuss outs.
That’s when you never actually create anything because you’re too afraid it’s all been done before. The thought loop usually goes something like this…
“Whenever I see someone doing the same thing I want to do — it takes me down! It’s a confirmation there’s nothing unique or original about me or my ideas. I’m a fraud. And, they’re all light years ahead of me. What’s the use in trying anyway? It’s all been done already.”

We’ve had this episode shot and in our editorial calendar for a few months now.
I’m still in awe of how our advanced planning of MarieTV somehow seems to energetically line up with what’s happening globally, and very often on a personal level for you, our audience.
Even my close friends say, “Marie, how do you always seem to know exactly what I’m going through?!”
While this particular Q&A has to do with a pretty common human experience, I can’t help but notice that this simple practice may — albeit in the smallest way — help us as we collectively strive to create positive social change both here in the US and around the world.
Pain, suffering and injustice are all around us. Like you, I see things on the news that anger me, break my heart and boggle my mind (and not in a good way).
However, I believe the more tools we have in our toolbox to stay connected to our humanity, the more equipped we’ll be create real and lasting change.
So today, learn a simple tool you can use whenever the pain around you feels overwhelming.
